In the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Gina Carano is a force to be reckoned with. She also casts an imposing shadow in the other aspects of her life as well.

With the feet and hands of a fighter and the face of a model, Carano has brought honor and energy to her sport and her television appearances. She is no stranger to the camera, and will have a lead role in a movie that begins production in 2010.

Conviction in the Martial Arts

Gina Carano is from Dallas County, Texas. Born on April 16, 1982, she is the daughter of Dana Cason and Glenn Carano, a former Dallas Cowboy backup quarterback. She graduated from Trinity Christian High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. She attended the University of Nevada and majored in psychology.

Ms. Carano is trained in Muay Thai, a Thai martial art, and is a professional fighter in women’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Her nickname in the MMA is “Conviction.” Carano’s record is impressive: seven victories and one loss; two wins by knockout and one by submission. In her most recent fight she lost to Christine “Cyborg” Santos in the first round.

Fight Girls and American Gladiators

Carano appeared in a cult film called Ring Girls in 2005. In addition, she has had a role in the Oxygen Channel series, Fight Girls. In this show she serves as a mentor, along with Lisa King, to a group of female fighters preparing for competition. She also starred in the most recent version of American Gladiators as “Crush,” where she was labeled “Queen of the Joust,” one of the combat events in the show. Her opponents frequently landed in the water below, at which point Carano would display her trademark “booty dance” to the beat of Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust.”

In addition to her regular part in the show, she starred with several other regulars in an exercise video based on the series.

Scoring a Knockout

Carano will begin filming for the movie, Knockout, in January 2010. Steven Soderbergh, will direct the film. He is known for movies such as Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven, and The Informant! According to Carano’s fan site, she will play a character from “the wrong side of the tracks” that uses her martial arts capabilities for good.

The Personal Side of Gina Carano

Carano often acknowledges her blessings in interviews, and exhibits a positive attitude about life. She has appeared in Maxim, and in 2008 she was voted “Hottest Woman In America” by Big Biz Magazine.

Gina Carano continues to be a star on the rise. The next few years will likely determine the star power of the gladiator sometimes known as “Crush!”
